About Me

Who I Am
In case you've lost touch with me or are currently suffering memory loss, here's some basic information about me.  I am currently 21 years old and about to enter my senior year of nursing school at Creighton University in Omaha, NE.  No, I do not know what kind of nurse I want to be, but I do know that I want to go to graduate school.  Eventually.  For something.  I enjoy nursing and am looking forward to graduating in May but at the same time I can wait a little longer for the real world to start. (Yikes!)  Early this summer I moved into a house with my sister, Jennifer, and my 2 good friends Callie and Sam.

What I Do
Outside of school, I try to keep myself busy on campus.  I am involved as an officer for my sorority, Tri Delta, which has been a wonderful experience thus far.  I also have been on several service trips through Creighton's Center for Service and Justice; this fall I will do my 4th and final trip at Creighton (and my 2nd as a coordinator) to Wind River, WY.  My stress-reliever activity involves planning and singing the music for 9pm Mass at St. John's Church on Creighton's campus.  I've held the same job since a was a freshman, as the office assistant for the Campus Recreation department (which pretty much means I get to sit at a desk and do my homework).  When I'm not studying or running around like a chicken with its head cut off, I like to watch TV (too much for my own good, I'm sure), play cards, and hang out with friends and my boyfriend, Colin.

Why I Went to the DR
The summer after junior year in nursing school is generally the time when many nursing students receive internships at various hospitals.  Instead of applying for internships, I decided to apply for the Summer Program in the DR.  I know many people who have had wonderful experiences in the DR on a variety of different trips, and their stories inspired me.  I wanted to expand my worldview and truly immerse myself in a different culture.  I also thought it couldn't hurt to learn some more Spanish.  I figured I could not be a truly competent nurse (and person) if I had only ever experienced the culture that I live in.  I have been very fortunate growing up, and I wanted to see what life was like for those that live in poverty.
